Google’s algorithm is under constant debate. I can guarantee that as you read this there a number of forum topics speculating on how to get “Google Juice” and see your SERPs skyrocket. A few things are given - more links to you is always good. So is regular updating of the site. Recently I saw the effect of something that has been discussed, but only lightly.

I mentioned Yahoo Mindset a few days ago - I think intent driven search is going to revolutionise search, and everything related to it. According to Bruce Clay, all of the big search engines are working on similar technologies. You search as you normally would, and your results show up as they normally would - here is a search for the PV-GS300, my video camera (from Panasonic).
The default search shows up a pretty even mix of “research” and “shopping” sites. Notice the slider between these two variables above the search results.
