Beer Review: Dieu du Ciel Peche Mortel

Dieu du Ciel Péché Mortel

This was a slight deviation from our ‘American Only’ beers while we were in Hawaii, I had to make the exception of stretching it to Canada. Péché Mortel translates to “Mortal Sin”, and is brewed by Dieu du Ciel! (“God in Heaven!”) – so you’d expect it to be pretty good! it is an Imperial Coffee Stout, and weighs in at 9.5% ABV.

Look

Peche Mortel pours deep brown to black, with a thick tan head. It leaves some lacing. You can almost see the coffee in the photo.

Smell

From the minute you open the bottle, the coffee aromas flow out. Some roasted malt is present as well, but this one is all about the coffee.

Taste

Coffee is the dominant flavour, and is supported by roasted and toasty malt. Also dark chocolate, and a slight alcohol taste.

Feel

Full bodied, with a medium to high level of carbonation. Very smooth, with some coffee bitterness at the end. The coffee hangs on your tongue.

Drink

Not a drinkable beer, but great for dessert. Delicious. If you like stout and/or coffee, definitely put this on your list of beers to try.
