Three months in Europe

On the 12th of July, I am heading off to Europe with my girlfriend (Simone, for those of you who know her) for three months. I will be writing some things about it on here. For those of you who normally read my posts about Beer, you are in for a treat. I have a long list of breweries I plan to visit. Please let me know if you have any recommendations.

I am planning to use Flickr along the way for photos. If that works, I will also add photos to posts on here in slideshows (eg here). If I know you, let me know and I’ll add you as a friend or send you a guest pass, so you can see all my photos. The slideshow below will eventually show all public photos of the trip I upload.

Also, I will be writing from my tiny eee laptop, so expect (and forgive) spelling mistakes.

    Hi Jack,

    Hope you’re enjoying London!

As promised, here are a few tips for your stay in Paris. And I thought I’d also slot in some very good breweries addresses in Brussels :) )

    PARIS
    - Near your hotel (18th / 9th arrondissement)
    To eat:
AU RELAIS, 48 RUE LAMARCK, 75018 PARIS
    Tel : 01 46 06 68 32
    Metro : Lamarck-caulaincourt

To drink a beer(3.5 euros a pint…mind you, it’s actually VERY cheap for Paris!)

    - Other ‘quartiers’
‘quartier Oberkampf’ (‘metro Parmentier’ – ‘XIe arrondissement’): trendy suburb with very nice cafes and bar ; check out ‘rue oberkampf’ (around the subway station Parmentier) and the other small streets ; in particular, ‘cafe charbon’ (trendy cafe with nice decor)… particularly busy at night and very ‘parisian’
    - cemetery ‘Pere Lachaise’ (‘XI arrondissement’): it’s a cemetery but it’s quite cool, with plenty of graves of stars… very popular during weekend with Parisians… also, just around the cemetery, check out ‘boulevard de
menilmontant’ with nice Moroccan and Turkish cafes
    - ‘Canal St Martin’ (‘XI arrondissement’): small canal with plenty of bars, concert places and trendy shops… starting at Republique subway… very popular on weekends

    BRUSSELS

    Centre:
    - Delirium cafe (impasse de la fidelite): 2000+ biers from around the world to choose from… just in front of the bar, the famous jeannekenpis!

    - place st géry (near the Stock Exchange), a lot of good bars to taste all the beers and especially the famous trappist beers!

    - Brasserie Cantillion: Brussels brewer of traditional lambics http://www.cantillon.be

    Sablons:
    - Marcolini chocolates (place des Sablons)Simply the best chocolates in the world!

Have a lovely trip – Bon voyage.

    Cheers

    Eve

Hi Eve, thanks so much for all this information, it will be very useful! Great to get information from an ex local :)

I can’t wait for Belgium – I’ve been enjoying a few English Pints, but I don’t think they’ll even compare to the Trappist ales!

      Jack
