My First Wordpress Plugin: Tracked Tweets

I’ve been spending some time making a wordpress plugin that tweets when you make a wordpress post. I think it has a few new features that other plugins do not.

The key feature is automated insertion of Google Analytics tracking codes into the post link. The source and medium are able to be defined, the campaign is set as the title of the post.

In the future I plan to add an option to insert hashtags on a per tweet basis.

Early testing version is available here, let me know what you think. I am waiting for approval into the plugins directory.

This website uses IntenseDebate comments, but they are not currently loaded because either your browser doesn't support JavaScript, or they didn't load fast enough.

Hi Jack, will it work when I publish using Windows Live Writer?

Hi Joseph, I don’t think so, as it works with the “New Post” page in Wordpress. I would be interested to know if it does work though :)

  5. Hello Jack,
just installed your nice twitter plugin and did some modification to trim message length if needed.

If you’re interested, I can send you the code.

Roughly it trims the title argument (obviously the longest one) on ly if needed, so that the full message doesn’t exceed 140 chars.

It seems not to work with the “Press This” posts either. But I’m probably liking it too much to worry about that itself.
